Approaches to learning
A. Organization
A.1. Time Management
Level 2: With minimal prompting, efficiently use the given time to complete tasks.
I give myself a 2 in this part of the ATL because I honestly don’t put much effort in managing my time, since my brain works best in pressure, and I like surprises. For example, if I have an assignment that is due on Monday, I’ll just do it on Saturday or maybe Sunday. I’ll have to admit, this is not a proper IB student behavior, and I intended to change, but, as it turns out, it is not that easy to change. This behavior of mine has been sticking with me since, well, since forever. I wish that in the upcoming quarter I’ll be able to at least improve a bit. I believe improving my time management will significantly boost my grades, since if I do my assignment far before the due time, I’ll have more time to edit it, so that the assignment will be better and better.
A.2. Self Management
Level 2: With minimal guidance, identify, assess and use available resources to complete tasks.
If I have to say myself, I have improved quite a bit from before I enrolled in this school. In this school, I learned how to manage myself, from how to manage my time, to how to improve my grades in school. I am often confused in this part of the ATL, because honestly inside of me I know how to improve my grades, but my body often refused to do it, merely because I am too lazy.
B. Collaboration
B.1. Working in Groups
Level 2: With minimal guidance, resolve conflicts, accept and complete tasks, and participate in group discussions.
For this category, I’ll have to grade myself in level 2, because even though I have improved in talking to my group mates in order to achieve high scores in the project, I am still sometimes too shy in letting my thoughts out in a group discussion, because I’m afraid if my opinion is irrelevant to the topic. For example when doing my music project with Nina and Zarra, I am not so open in letting my opinions out, and basically let them both do most of the work. I am not satisfied with this, and I’m still trying to change.
B.2. Accepting Others
Level 3: Objectively evaluate and synthesize other people’s ideas in order to arrive at novel solutions.
For this category, I am grading myself in level 3, since even though I’m not that good in working in groups, but I don’t think I am capable enough to not accept others. I think, I can only discriminate others if I’m God, not just mere human. So, I think I will accept others just the way they are, even if theirs are not that good.
B.3. Personal Challenges
Level 2: Consider differences and personal limitations when working with others and find ways to achieve goals
For this category, I graded myself in level 2, because I have goals in every subject I have. I think this is good, because goals are necessary to make me do my best, because even though my scores are good according to others and even my parents, I am not yet satisfied until I achieved my goal. Although, I have to admit, sometimes my goals can be outrageous, and is practically impossible to achieve. Because of that, I cannot grade myself in level 3.
C. Communication
C.1. Literacy
Level 2: With minimal guidance, apply comprehension strategies to extract meaning from various sources.
I graded myself in level two because sometimes I still cannot understand the meaning of a sentence in a particular source. But, I can choose the correct source to finish my project, so I am in the middle of level 1 and level 3. Thus, I graded myself in level 2. I can improve by further improving my English, so that I can comprehend the meaning of a sentence better.
C.2. Being informed
Level 2: With some guidance, assess and use available sources and media to acquire information responsibly.
In this category, I graded myself in level 2, because I’m starting to be able to search for the information needed to enhance my performance in the particular subject. I think and can improve by further erasing my laziness, and using the right sources to research correct information for the subject, so that I can be better and better, until I reach level 3.
C.3. Informing others
Level 2: Communicate information and ideas clearly and coherently using prescribed format and media. Use appropriate register and cite sources properly.
In this category, I graded myself in level 2 because sometimes I’m able to inform others about the information I got, but most of the times I kept the information to myself because I felt that the information I acquired is not sufficient and other people has got better information than mine. I’m also starting to be able to cite sites correctly, and compose a good bibliography.
D. Reflection
D.1. Self Awareness
Level 3: Actively seek and give constructive criticism. Consciously take action to improve oneself.
In this category, I am able to grade myself in level 3 because I feel that I am an honest person, and I can see through my own strength and weakness thoroughly. But most of the time I do nothing to improve my weaknesses, so this is pretty much useless. I am trying to change, so that I can use this trait of mine correctly.
D.2. Self Evaluation
Level 3: Identify learning expectations; find and apply appropriate means to evaluate one’s performance, and improve work accordingly.
In this category, like the previous category the self awareness, I am able to grade myself in level 3 because I am able to identify my weakness and strength thoroughly. This is my most significant trait, and I’m proud of it. Although I have not been able to use this ability correctly.
